He was born in a comparatively conservative family, against acting and art in general. He is the third son and his father is a famous businessman, working in the Turkish government and his mother a housewife, who initially did not wish thier son to become an actor.Engin is also interested in charity work and the time was spending most of his spare time in collecting donations, visiting orphans and volunteering in a charity which had an impact on his general behavior and made people impressed by him.
However his love for theatre and acting convinced his family to try for television and so Engin Akyurek took part in a reality television competition by the name “Turkiye’nin Yildizlari” and won the hearts of many fans and judges.He came first place in this competition, whom he took part along with Beren saat,who came as 2nd as a runner up.That's what helped him in the beginning of his way in acting and exposed him to the Drama field.Both Beren and Engin have been on good terms and friends since.
This oppurtunity landed him a supporting role in the TV series, Yabanci Damat.(2004–2007), produced byYagmur Taylan and Durul Taylan. His performance as Kadir Sadıkoglu won him critical acclaim and led to his first film debut in Zeki Demirkubuz's Kader (2006). For his portrayal of Cevat in this film, Engin Akyurek received the “Most Promising Actor” award for both the 39th Turkish Cinema Awards and for CASOD (Cagdas Sinema Oyuncuları Dernegi) Awards in 2006.
Thereafter, he starred in the role of Nizipli Halim in the TV series,Karayilan (TV), a story that took place in Gaziantep (2007–2008), it was a period drama of a story that took place during the French Occupation. What came next blew his fame and success to new heights and made him a fan favorite, and a talk of every female in household.

http://www.facebook.com/EnginAkyurekFansPakistan Akyurek played the male psychotic lover, Mustafa Bulut, in the TV series “Bir Bulut Olsam,” written by Meral Okay and produced by Ulas Inanc.For this role he won 11 prizes which presented a turning point in his career. Although the character of mustafa was a dark and evil character, engins performance was so good that he brought shades of grey into him,making him much more than a psycho,giving him thoughts,feelings and a character beyond those given in the script. Infact this character became more loved and admired by fans than the other male lead. It was his great acting ability, it was so convincing that it made all the evil actions of mustafa seem justified. His charming good looks, voice modulation skills and fire of desire in the eyes with which he spoke to' Narin' that won him a huge female following. Engin by now was a huge star, and fans wished for narin and mustafa to be together and fall in love instead.Hence Engin received his best role in bir bulut olsam '' narin '' at the time, but his joy couldn'tlast due to a falsified bribery claim he was accused of.
In turkey it is mandatory for males to complete military duty for some time and engin had not completed it, media learned about it and flase claims were made that he bribed authorities to get out of the trouble of performing his duties.
He had to take part in a trial, which he won, which also proved his innocence. The general was caught in a recording of a conversation with Engin asking for a big bribe to remove the falsified claims and fake report put on Engin, hence engin was free to work again. Sadly during this trial, alot of time of production team would have been wasted hence they put the recording of his show on hold and then ultimately had to wrap up and end the show as Engin couldn't complete the series due to time the trial took. Bir Bulut Olsam one of the most highly rated shows and his defining role of his career came to an abrupt end at episode 29 much to the dissapointment of the countless obsessive fans of the show.
After the whole military fiasco Engin distanced himsef from the media, newspapers and did not like showing himself much in public, he was heart broken at the way his life was being ridiculed for entertainment.
Fate gave him another chance when in 2010, on the insistence of Beren saat who (was also his fellow contestant in the tv competition and friend) saw his great work in the series BBO, and hence was given the role of kerim, She insisted to work with him only in her new project and the producers saw notuce of his work in BBO and Engin was finalized to work in the showwhich would take him to newer heights and get him fame in over 30 nations across the world. Beren was a huge star at this point and this was a compliment for Engin who had proved his acting prowess in Bir Bulut Olsam.

It was his passionate eyes, his smooth body language and the fire he spoke with along with a great emotional scale that got him recommended for the role of a pained and heartbroken lover.He hence played the male romantic lead, Kerim Ilgaz, in Fatmagul'un Sucu Ne? from 2010–2011, a TV series about societal issues surrounding a rape victim. The original scenario of Fatmagul'un Sucu Ne? a novel by Vedat Turkali, was written by Ece Yorenc and Melek Gencoglu for TV Drama and produced by Kerem Catay, and story was changed a bit from the novel to fir the audiences ability to digest. Engin played the part so well that he became an instant superstar,even bigger than he was before, his deep romantic eyes made the women swoon and melt, and this show was picked up by foreign channels and so he was a global star in Arab and muslim countries the show was aired in.
Engin has a huge fan following not only in turkey but abroad as well. After airing just the first Episodes engin become the interest of all Arab world because of kerim's role and because of his handsomeness and when polls were conducted in turkey about the most handsome actor Engin Akyurek won 6 times with a big differance beating huge heavy weights like Kivance tatlitug and Bugra gulsoy.
Infact Engin is considered the best and most handsome actor of turkey at number one right now and his onscreen couple of fatimagul and kerim has beaten records of bihter and behlool, the leads shared such intense romantic chemistry that fans have made special blogs, fanpages on the internat, and fatmagul fans are considered the most obsessive and protective fans of the show, beating fans of even twilight in many muslim countries.His trademark are his hair which his female fans cry about everytime his is cut a bit shorter and his souful eyes, and he is often referred to as 'pearl in the eyes' due to his emotional screens where his eyes especially the left one glistens.
